According to Jeremy Fowler at ESPN, the New England Patriots should be considered a "wild card" in the Lamar Jackson free-agency sweepstakes. The blockbuster acquisition would equip Patriots head coach/general manager Bill Belichick with the best quarterback he's had since Tom Brady left the franchise for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. The irony is that the Baltimore Ravens are a historic rival of the New England Patriots. Led by Ray Lewis, the Ravens teams faced off against the Brady-Belichick dynastic Patriots' squads four times in the postseason, from 2009 to 2014. The teams split the four meetings. However, if Belichick can lure Lamar Jackson away from the Ravens, it may be the most significant victory in the storied AFC rivalry. But, because Lamar Jackson is a restricted free agent, the Patriots would have to surrender two first-round draft picks to the Ravens as compensation.

As of now, teams such as the Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons, and New York Jets are considered to be the main suitors for Lamar Jackson. However, no team has presented the 2019 regular season MVP with an offer yet. Jackson and his current team, the Baltimore Ravens, are reportedly more than $40 million per year apart in negotiations.
