Rasheed Wallace ranks third all-time amongst NBA players with the most technical fouls. Now, the four-time NBA All-Star is bringing his temperament to the Los Angeles Laker's locker room as an assistant coach. The hiring will reunite Wallace with his former teammate (and Laker's new head coach), Darvin Ham. Ironically enough both men were a part of the Detriot Piston's team that defeated a Lakers team led by Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant in the 2004 NBA Finals, 4-1.
Rasheed Wallace was one of the league's first-ever "stretch-four" power forwards. His three-point shooting, during an era when threes were not prevalent, made his presence a glaring advantage for a Detroit Pistons team that reached the NBA Finals two years in a row, during the 2000s. Thus, his experience and skill set make him an ideal fit to work with the likes of Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard. While his toughness may help the team create a gritty culture in the locker room so that they can find ways to win games even on the nights when they're under-manned.
Wallace famously coined the phrase "ball don't lie," during his playing days and last year made headlines when he declared that Russell Westbrook was the "best player in the world." Now, he'll have the chance to help prove the latter.
Wallace (47) previously served as the assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons, before accepting a similar position under Penny Hardaway with the men's basketball team at the University of Memphis.
