Rasheed Wallace knows a thing or two about basketball. The Philly native, who retired in 2013, spent 16 years in the NBA including six with the Detroit Pistons where they won the 2004 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. The 43-year-old baller recently sat down with Complex during a media preview at Nike HQ on Monday.
One question that came up was about how he believes his 2004 Pistons squad would fare against the offerings found in the NBA today. Wallace didn't mince words in his response.
"Oh, we would crush ‘em," he said. "We could crush it ‘cause we played defense. That’s what we hung our hat on night in and night out was defense. We not gon’ let no one come in and score 140 something points or let one individual player score 55 points. Nah, that’s not happening."
Later, Wallace was asked if he sees any players today that could match what he brought to the court. Not surprisingly, Durant, LeBron, and Wade's names came up.
"Yeah, I see it in a lot of the veteran players," said Wallace. "I see it a lot in KD, you see it a lot in LeBron, you see it a lot in D. Wade when he was able to play and when he was healthy. It’s there, but I think it’s more in the veteran players. The younger guys haven’t had that experience, you know, fighting in them dog fights, unlike those veteran guys."
