The Louisville Police Department fired two detectives on Tuesday for their involvement in the Breonna Taylor raid. Taylor was a 26-year-old emergency room technician, who was fatally shot by Louisville cops during a forced-entry raid last March.
According to former detectives' termination letters, Myles Cosgrove was fired for use of deadly force -- firing 16 rounds into Taylor's home -- and failing to activate his body camera. Joshua Jaynes wrote the search warrant for the raid and was fired for not completing a Search Warrant Operations Plan form. Jaynes also lied about verifying that Taylor's previous boyfriend, Jamarcus Glover, had been receiving packages at Taylor's home.
The detectives received pre-termination letters last week. Both men could appeal their termination, which could lead to a public hearing and review by the LMPD Merit Board.
Since Taylor's death, only one of the officers has been charged in connection with the shooting. Brett Hankison was fired in June 2020 before a grand jury charged him with three counts of felony wanton endangerment. He has pleaded not guilty to his charges. No officer has been charged for Taylor's actual death.
