Kyle Rittenhouse, the Illinois teenager who fatally shot two people and wounded a third during the Kenosha protests, pleaded not guilty to all charges on Tuesday. His plea was entered during a hearing that was conducted by teleconference.
According to the Associated Press, Rittenhouse is accused of traveling to Kenosha, Wisconsin after learning of a call to protect businesses after Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by police and left paralyzed in August. Two nights later, the teen used an assault rifle to fatally shoot Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and wound Gaige Grosskreutz.
The 18-year-old, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, argued that he acted in self-defense. While he's been labeled as a terrorist by some, conservative groups have rallied behind Rittenhouse and helped him raise enough money to make his $2 million cash bail.
A pretrial conference has been set for March 10, with a March 29 trial date. Rittenhouse's attorney, Mark Richards, is expected to seek a delay in the trial in order to further prepare. Kyle Rittenhouse is charged with reckless and intentional homicide, endangerment, and being a minor in possession of a firearm.
