Police have arrested the shooter they believe is responsible for killing two people during the ongoing protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, which erupted after police shot 29-year-old Jacob Blake.
The shooter was identified as Kyle Rittenhouse, and it was revealed that he was booked on first-degree homicide in relation to the Kenosha shooting. He was assigned a public defender and is set to appear in court for an extradition hearing later this week, as Rittenhouse was arrested in Antioch, Illinois.
The shooting happened as protesters gathered at the Kenosha courthouse with water bottles, rocks, and fireworks aimed at police. When police retaliated by firing rubber bullets into the crowd, the group dispersed a couple of streets over. This is when Rittenhouse was seen on video after shooting someone several blocks away. Protesters then started chasing Rittenhouse to subdue him, and when he falls on the ground and several people approach him, he unloads his gun, killing two people.
Police swarmed the area with their lights on, and Rittenhouse put his hands in the air with his gun still strapped around his chest. The police cars then pass by him as a crowd tells them that he is the shooter, only for Rittenhouse to walk away.

As protests continue in Kenosha, Wisconsin, after police shot 29-year-old Jacob Blake, two people were killed and one wounded on Tuesday (August 25) night.
Police are currently hunting for a man seen on cellphone footage opening fire in the middle of a street with a rifle. The shooting occurred just before midnight, leaving one victim shot in the head and another in the chest. The third victim's wounds were not believed to life-threatening.
Jacob Blake's attorney, Benjamin Crump, gave an update on his condition, revealing, "The medical diagnosis right now is that he is paralyzed and because those bullets severed his spinal cord and shattered some of his vertebrae… it is going to take a miracle for Jacob Blake Jr. to ever walk again. He is currently in surgery as we speak, still struggling to sustain his life and to hopefully become some resemblance of the man he once was." Attorney Patrick Salvi added that "nearly his entire colon and small intestine" had to be removed after he sustained damage to his kidney and liver.
