We remain grateful to everyone who has helped David through this ordeal, both in the Dominican Republic and here in Boston. David's journey to good health has been bolstered by the many expressions of love that have come to us from across the globe. Your support has lifted his spirits tremendously during this challenging time."

Update 06/14/2019 11:34am:

As the search for Luis Alfredo Rivas-Clase aka "The Surgeon" continues with the suspect still at large, nine other suspects have been arrested for their involvement in the David Ortiz shooting last Sunday (June 9).

As new footage shows the suspects being protected by armed police as they get escorted inside a police building, "The Surgeon" is still on the run while also being wanted in the United States for an attempted murder last year in Pennsylvania.

The Berks County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they have been looking for Rivas-Clase since April of 2018, when he was identified as a suspect involved in the shooting of a man in Reading. Similar to Ortiz, that victim ultimately survived a bullet wound to the back, while it's been alleged that Rivas-Clase conspired with another suspect to carry out the shooting.

Thus far, Dominican authorities have not confirmed who ordered the hit on Ortiz or why he was targeted.

Update 06/11/2019 9:59am:

As David Ortiz continues to recover in a Boston hospital after being shot in the Dominican Republic, investigators are still trying to piece together how the events unfolded and the motive behind it.

Surveillance footage from the Dial Bar and Lounge showed a lively atmosphere when a shooter appears to approach Ortiz from behind, where only his legs can be seen at the top of the screen when he fires a shot at point-blank range.

Ortiz can then be seen slumping to his left and falling out of his chair as frightened bystanders rushed from the scene, while off camera one of the suspects,  Eddy Vladimir Féliz García, was beaten by the public before police arrived to take him into custody.

It's since been noted that television host Jhoel Lopez, who was with Ortiz at the lounge, also suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, while another unidentified individual was reportedly injured during the ambush.

Furthermore, although the motive behind the shooting is currently unknown, Ortiz's media assistant let it be known that the baseball legend does not know Féliz García, who otherwise is said to reside in Las Caobas, West Santo Domingo and has only a 2017 drug charge on his record.

Update 06/10/2019 11:51am:

The sports community at large was shocked to find out that David Ortiz had been shot in his own country of the Dominican Republic, where the baseball legend was reportedly shot in the back at point-blank range. It's been further reported that the bullet went through Ortiz's stomach and that treatment at a local hospital required surgery, though now Big Papi is currently "out of danger" and in stable condition.

With that said, the damage to Ortiz is said to be extensive, as in a statement to ESPN his assistant, Leo Lopez, revealed that "Ortiz had to remove parts of the intestines and the colon and remove the gallbladder. His liver was damaged, too."

Although the motive is still unknown as the prior burglary theory has been debunked, investigators say there are two suspects in the case, both of whom rode up to the scene on a motorcycle as they fired shots into the restaurant.

From there, the two men tried to escape on foot after falling off of their motorcycle, which led to one suspect, Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garcia, to be subdued by bystanders on the scene. Cell phone footage then captured Garcia being beaten on the street before the police arrived to take him into custody, while the second suspect was able to escape and is reportedly still at large.
