As Surviving R. Kelly has regenerated newfound interest in the well-established scandal of R. Kelly's marriage to Aaliyah, his hired attorney has clearly proven that he hasn't seen all of the evidence. In a 1994 documentary about the singer who had just dropped his debut solo album 12 Play, after leaving his original group Public Announcement, R. Kelly reveals that he's producing a singer by the name of Aaliyah, who in his own words "is 14 and real street."

“Right now I’m producing a very talented lady — young lady,” says Kelly in the footage. “She’s 14, Aaliyah. She’s real street and she's just chillin, you know man."

Sure enough, that footage directly contradicts Kelly's own attorney who spoke to ABC after the controversial docuseries, who in the interview indicates that Kelly did marry Aaliyah when she was 15, however, he was seemingly unaware that she was underage.

“He was married to her when she was 15 like Elvis was married to Priscilla,” Steven Greenberg said in a pre-taped interview, though it should be noted that Elvis Presley reportedly met his bride Priscilla when she was 14, and later married her when she was 21 years of age.

"My understanding is that she did not claim to be 15," Greenberg added in reference to Aaliyah, “and in order to get married, she had to lie about her age."

It's unclear what Greenberg now has to say about the video evidence in the resurfaced documentary.
