While R. Kelly's lawyer Steven Greenberg previously claimed that the singer didn't know Aaliyah was underage when they married in 1994, an unearthed video shows Kelly confirming her age as 14 before they were married.
The video, which is part of a documentary about R. Kelly, features him saying, "Right now I'm producing a very talented lady — a young lady. She's 14, Aaliyah."
Kelly's lawyer retracted his previous statement about being told that Aaliyah lied about her age to get married, stating, "That was 20 years ago. I didn't know him 20 years ago, I didn't represent him 20 years ago. And, I wasn't invited to any wedding."
Kelly's marriage to Aaliyah was referenced in the Lifetime docu-series "Surviving R. Kelly," where the singer's former tour manager, Demetrius Smith, revealed that he forged the marriage documents to make it legal. Smith also claimed that Aaliyah was pregnant when they married, which was why they were in a rush to tie the knot.
