Part 1: Mexica Mafia Hitman Ramon "Mundo" Mendoza on Seeing Inmate Raped 1st Day in Juvenile Hall

In this VladTV interview, Ramon “Mundo” Mendoza breaks down the prison history behind the Norteño–Sureño conflict and challenges common myths about how it began. Mendoza explains that Nuestra Familia was already active by 1965 in Soledad, before the 1968 “Shoe War” often linked to the split. He details how tensions with the Mexican Mafia escalated after Hector Padilla of San Jose confronted Robert “Robot” Salas over stolen shoes, leading to violence that exposed deeper divisions inside California prisons.

Mendoza also discusses Soledad, San Quentin, Shallow Hernandez, “Widow” Morgan, IGI Hankins, and how recruitment among inmates from Fresno, San Jose, Salinas, Stockton and other Northern California areas helped shape the later Norteño identity. He explains why the North-South divide, in his view, developed around 1970–71 rather than during the original 1968 incident. Mendoza also references his book, *The Shoe War*, on the history of Norteños vs. Sureños.
