Ed McDonald sits down with Vlad to compare Martin Scorsese’s *Goodfellas* portrayal of Tommy DeVito to the real Tommy DeSimone, the Lucchese associate behind Joe Pesci’s Oscar-winning character. McDonald recalls being assigned to the Lufthansa case in December and explains why DeSimone was allegedly killed soon after: John Gotti and the Gambino family could not tolerate the murders of Billy Batts and “Foxy” Gerardi, both tied to Gambino interests.

McDonald says early rumors blamed Jimmy for Tommy’s disappearance, but Henry Hill’s cooperation and informants later confirmed DeSimone had been executed. He describes the real “Two Guns Tommy” as a physically imposing, violent figure whose brutality was not exaggerated onscreen. McDonald also reflects on initially doubting Joe Pesci’s casting before realizing the performance captured DeSimone’s volatility, especially the legendary “funny how?” scene.
