Part 1: Nicholas Irving: I Didn't Wear Underwear My Entire Military Career
--------
In a candid interview, former Army Ranger Nicholas Irving shared unforgettable insights from his military service and time overseas. Discussing the grueling intensity of Ranger School, Irving detailed the brutal 62-day ordeal involving sleep deprivation, extreme physical exertion, and harsh environmental challenges like swamp trekking and snake encounters. He revealed how the experience physically took a toll, leaving him malnourished and numb in his toes for over a year.
When asked about sweating during overseas missions, Irving explained that desert nights were surprisingly cool and sweat-free, contrasted with the scorching, sweat-drenched days. On the topic of locals’ hygiene, Irving didn’t mince words, joking about how most people overseas “stank” due to harsh environmental and cultural factors.
Looking back, Irving admits he now laughs at these hardships, acknowledging they helped him endure life's challenges. For him, tough memories without life-threatening danger are funny and fuel resilience in civilian life.
