Part 1: Clifton Powell on Losing His Mother to Suicide at Age 4: She Just Walked Into the Night

--------

In a recent interview, actor Clifton Powell opened up about the harrowing experience fellow actor DeAundre Bonds faced while filming the disturbing rape scene in the 2000 prison drama *Lockdown*. Bonds reluctantly agreed to shoot the intense scene under the director's insistence, later admitting to crying afterward due to the emotional toll it took on him. Powell, who was not present on set during that scene and had no scenes alongside Bonds, praised his courage in portraying such a challenging moment. When asked if he himself would have been willing to perform the scene, Powell candidly said no, explaining it was outside his comfort zone. He emphasized that while actors must embody different experiences, some roles push personal boundaries too far. Powell also recounted declining a difficult scene involving a child in another film, underscoring the importance of respecting actors’ limits. He concluded by applauding Bonds for his bravery in tackling such a difficult part.
