Part 1: Clifton Powell on Losing His Mother to Suicide at Age 4: She Just Walked Into the Night

--------

Actor Clifton Powell revealed in a recent interview that despite his extensive film career, including roles in *Menace II Society*, *Dead Presidents*, and *Next Friday*, he didn’t own his first car or have a bank account until the age of 46. Powell explained that early in his career, paychecks were small—sometimes just a few thousand dollars. It wasn’t until landing recurring TV roles that his income increased substantially, surprisingly catching him off guard with weekly paychecks of up to $50,000.

Powell’s first vehicle was actually a scooter, followed by modest cars like a Ford Festiva and a Volkswagen Rabbit, reflecting his humble beginnings and unfamiliarity with credit and financial management. He stressed the importance of financial education for young entertainers, highlighting that many artists struggle with money due to a lack of guidance. Now 70, Powell actively mentors younger talent and emphasizes wellness, sobriety, and responsible money handling to sustain a successful career in entertainment.
