Part 4: DEA Agent Abe Collins on Intercepting Memphis Drug Deliveries Worth Over $5M
Part 1: DEA Agent Abe Collins: When Crack Hit Memphis, Addicts Would Do Anything for the Next Hit
--------
DEA Agent Abe Collins detailed the violent operations of drug lord Craig Petties, brother of DJ Paul, revealing Petties' ruthless tactics against suspected informants. Petties, who ran a massive Memphis-based drug trafficking ring, allegedly ordered numerous murders—not only to eliminate rival dealers but also to silence individuals he suspected of cooperating with law enforcement.
Collins recounted the killing of Anthony Allen, a suspected cooperator, highlighting that merely being suspected of snitching often led to deadly consequences in Petties' organization. Agent Collins emphasized that “snitching” was often based on rumor, and even unproven suspicions could result in violent retribution.
After Petties fled to Mexico in 2002 to avoid indictment, he continued orchestrating hits remotely using encrypted phones, ordering at least seven murders—including one for a threat made against his mother. Bounties paid to killers ranged up to $40,000 or equivalents in cocaine, underscoring the brutal enforcement underpinning Petties' drug empire.
