In an exclusive interview, DEA Agent Abe Collins sheds light on the violent criminal reign of Memphis druglord Craig Petties, attributing at least eight confirmed murders to him. Collins explained that while several other unsolved homicides are suspected to be linked to Petties, concrete proof remains elusive. The extensive investigation began in 2001 and culminated in Petties’ capture in Mexico in January 2008, following close cooperation between U.S. and Mexican authorities.
Collins detailed how the team leveraged cooperating insiders and advanced tactics to locate Petties, who fortified himself with six cartel-affiliated bodyguards. The case held personal significance for Collins, particularly due to the murder of Mario Student, a man trying to turn his life around who was killed in his home. Meeting Petties face-to-face marked a career highlight for the DEA team that ultimately dismantled one of the most feared drug empires in the country.
