In a candid interview, rapper Jap5 opened up about surviving numerous gunfire incidents since childhood, sharing that the first time he was shot at was when he was only nine years old. “I wasn’t the target, but bullets were flying in my direction,” he said. Over the years, Jap5 estimates he has been shot at more than 20 times and has even been hit once, recalling an incident where he was grazed on the leg by six bullets while approaching a car at age 15.
He explained that living in constant danger led him to carry a firearm from his teenage years for protection, despite multiple arrests for possession starting around age 17. Jap5 also spoke about his complicated relationship with his father, who was frequently incarcerated and didn’t provide clear guidance, leaving Jap5 to navigate the challenges of street life largely on his own.
