Part 1: Devon Dudley: My Mom Was Pregnant with Me at 15, Father Was a Big Time Drug Dealer

--------

Growing up in 1980s Brooklyn during the crack epidemic, Devon Dudley faced a harsh reality. His father was a drug dealer, and life in the projects exposed him to drugs, violence, and tragedy. "A lot of my friends were either dying in the streets or going to jail," Dudley recalls. Concerned for his safety, Dudley’s family sent him to live in suburban Long Island—a drastic change that shifted his perspective. In Brooklyn, he attended predominantly Black and Latino schools, but Long Island introduced him to a different world. During this turbulent time, Dudley found an unexpected refuge in professional wrestling. Watching WWF matches captivated him and helped steer him away from the destructive path surrounding him. “Pro wrestling saved me like there was no tomorrow,” he says. Despite the odds stacked against him, Dudley credits his family’s support and wrestling’s escape for his survival and eventual success.
