Tommy The Clown, the pioneering dancer featured in the acclaimed 2005 documentary "Rize," opened up about the impact and challenges following the film’s success. The documentary, made on a $700,000 budget and grossing approximately $4.6 million, brought global attention to clowning and krumping, allowing Tommy and his crew to perform worldwide. Despite the film’s triumph, Tommy revealed he was later sued by Crown Towers, who claimed he was cheated out of profits after investing $30,000 with a promised 25% share. Tommy admitted that financial setbacks, including a robbery, complicated matters, and that he ultimately took the hit. Reflecting on the journey, Tommy also shared the bittersweet reality of mentoring youth amid struggles, touching on the tragic 2018 loss of a young dancer from his crew. Despite the hardships, Tommy remains committed to growing the movement and inspiring new generations.
