Former Army Ranger Nicholas Irving expressed serious concerns about America’s military readiness amid the rising geopolitical tensions with China. Despite the U.S. Navy’s hefty annual budget—nearly a quarter-trillion dollars—Irving highlighted that shipbuilding remains stagnant with roughly five vessels constructed per year. Meanwhile, China reportedly builds over 1,000 naval ships annually, a disparity that suggests the U.S. could be outgunned in a potential conflict.
Irving stressed that China’s advancements extend beyond sheer numbers to include cutting-edge technology like drone warfare and mass production capabilities. Although the U.S. military remains skilled and battle-tested, Irving noted the departure of seasoned veterans might weaken future combat effectiveness. He also pointed out depleted U.S. munitions reserves after supporting global conflicts, raising questions about readiness. Ultimately, Irving warns that America may be unprepared to face an opponent as technologically advanced and militarily robust as China, urging a reassessment of strategic priorities before it’s too late.
