Mario Sanchez shares his journey from inmate to shot caller at just 25. The interview discusses a turbulent era in the late 90s where Sanchez witnessed and participated in violent clashes, including one of the largest prison riots between Southerners and Blacks around 1996. During these events, tensions were high, leading to numerous stabbings, lockdowns, and strategic moves. Sanchez recounted how he avoided getting embroiled between feuding groups, focusing instead on his role and survival. Following the riot, Sanchez was transferred to New Folsom prison. His reputation from Pelican Bay preceded him, elevating his status among fellow Norteños. By the time he arrived, power dynamics were shifting rapidly, with leadership turnovers due to constant surveillance and snitching. Soon after, Sanchez found himself at the helm, leading about 50 Norteños.
