About 30 years ago, Ice Cube released his third studio album, The Predator. The classic LP remains one the highlights of Ice Cube's music catalog and a fixture of West Coast hip hop during the genre's apex in the early 90s. "It Was a Good Day" was one of the most memorable songs from the album's tracklist. The recording details a day in the life of Ice Cube while in South Central Los Angeles. In the song, Ice Cube references his future wife, Kimberly Woodruff, when he famously rapped, "I got a page from Kim, and she can f*ck all night." The song would go on to be named by Rolling Stone as the 36th greatest rap song of all time. Decades later, "It Was a Good Day" still rings bells for the younger generation of hip-hop.
Logic was two years old when Ice Cube dropped The Predator in 1992. The Grammy-nominated rapper recently took a stab at reimagining "It Was a Good Day." However, when he recited the line about "Kim," he struck an emotional chord with Ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson Jr. because Kim is his mother.
"I respect logic," O'Shea Jackson Jr. said. "I think he can rap. And that’s all I really need. But bruh….if if ever hear you sing about my mother again… it’s gone be a misunderstanding lmaoooo"
He continued with pair of follow-up message, "Imagine having to be your pops hype man and doing that part …….. I’ll wait………pretty awkward right……. So now when either me or my brother in stage with him the line is “I got a beep from HER” instead of my moms name."
O'Shea Jackson Jr. capped his thoughts on the matter with a final tweet. This time, he turned his attention to his dad's choice of words for his mother, "Yes my father is so romantic smh."
