Update 10/22/2022 11:00am:

In 2020, it was revealed that Cardi B was going to trial for putting a man’s tattoo on the cover for her mixtape ‘Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1.’ The rapper was sued by Kevin Brophy Jr., who said the likeness of his tattoo was put in a “misleading, offensive, humiliating and provocatively sexual way.” Now, Cardi has gained a victory in the case, as she’s been absolved of any wrongdoing by a jury of nine in a Santa Ana, California, federal court.

The attorney for Brophy spoke on the verdict, saying, “After the verdict Michael Brophy, Cardi b and Mr. Rafael shook hands, they were gracious winners. Mr. Brophy is a stand-up human being. If this chapter can close it may be best for the Brophy family’s ability to put this behind them. That’s all that is important.” Cardi took to social media to address the situation, saying she's grateful things went in her favor and that she doesn't feel any malice towards the people who sued her. The rapper said instead of cursing them out, she actually wished them the best.

Previously, Brophy sued Cardi B in 2017 for $5 million. This isn’t the only suit Cardi has won, as the rapper won a defamation suit against blogger Tasha K

Cardi B has been laying low, but it seems as if she will be in court facing a lawsuit over her ‘Gangsta B***h Music Vol. 1’ mixtape cover. Cardi is being sued by Kevin Brophy Jr, who said Cardi put the likeness of his tattoo in a “misleading, offensive, humiliating and provocatively sexual way."

Cardi B’s initial response to the lawsuit was rejected by U.S. District Court Judge Cormac Carney, who said, “A reasonable jury in this case could conclude that there are insufficient transformative or creative elements on the GBMV1 cover to constitute a transformative use of Plaintiff’s tattoo." The judge continued to speak on the alleged use of Brophy’s tattoo on the cover, saying, “Most significantly, defining elements including the tiger and snake remain virtually unchanged. Under these circumstances, a jury will have to decide the merits of Defendants’ defense." Stay tuned for more details.
