In the wake of the alleged $8 million welfare scandal currently linked to former Super Bowl champion Brett Favre, fans familiar with his case have begun to evoke comparisons to Colin Kaepernick's inadvertent fall from grace after he was essentially blackballed from the NFL for taking a knee during the playing of the national anthem, before NFL regular season games during the entire 2016 season. Although Kaepernick did not break the law or any NFL rules, he was ridiculed by politicians, police officers, fellow celebrities, and more. In contrast, Favre hasn't received nearly as much backlash or criticism in the public eye. An argument can be made that both instances carry a political and societal undertone. This could explain why several fans/social media users have begun to upload memes featuring side-by-side images of the two former NFL quarterbacks, comparing Favre's alleged illegal activity to Kapernick's stance against police brutality. While Favre is not a racist, some people have alleged that the lopsidedness of his treatment vs. Kaepernick's is a bit prejudice. Actress Cherie Johnson (Punky Brewster, Family Matters) recently re-posted an illustration of Kapernick and Favre, side by side, with a caption that read, "Let's talk about Brett!?!" The illustration has prompted several debates about race, which former NFL quarterback actually broke any rules, whose actions were the most offensive, and why the public has reacted so differently to Favre.
