Ben Simmons recently sat down with JJ Redick for ‘The Old Man and the Three’ podcast and discussed various topics, including his storied time with the Philadelphia Sixers. While speaking to Redick, Simmons was asked how he felt about Shaquille O’Neal speaking on him in the past while the player was having mental health issues.

Simmons pointed out that he and Shaq both went to LSU, and if they were indeed brothers in that way, Shaq would have reached out to him after finding out about the issues. “I DM’d him, and I was like, ‘why are you saying this if you don’t even know the story?’ ‘Cause he always wants to say like yo, we’re LSU brothers, you’re my brother, all this, that,” said Simmons. The player continued, “If you’re my LSU brother, you would’ve reached out by now, and it’s been months since I’ve been dealing with this. You ain’t reached out once and said like, ‘hey, you OK? Like, what’s going on.’”

Simmons also spoke about not going for a wide-open dunk during Game 7 of the 2021 Philadelphia Sixers and Atlanta Hawks playoff series.
