Previously, a 98-page initial draft majority opinion from Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito surfaced, which would overturn the 1973 landmark decision which protects abortion rights. The draft found Alito saying “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. ts reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division.” Now, the Supreme Court has confirmed the authenticity of the leaked plan to overturn federal abortion laws. 

Chief Justice John G. Roberts reportedly issued an investigation into the leak of the draft. Along with that, he gave a statement saying, “Court employees have an exemplary and important tradition of respecting the confidentiality of the judicial process and upholding the trust of the Court.” The Chief Justice continued saying, “This was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here.” Last year, the Supreme Court agreed to hear out a Mississippi case that asks for a re-evaluation of the precedent-setting Roe V.
