Previously, former ‘Empire’ castmate Taraji P. Henson took to Instagram to defend Jussie Smollett following a judge issuing a 150-day jail sentence. Henson went on to call out the sentence, saying, “we can agree the punishment does not fit the crime.” Now, Jussie’s sister— Jurnee Smollett, has broken her silence on her brother’s jail sentence.
Via Instagram, Jurnee posted a graphic saying #FreeJussie. The actor tagged the Coalition for Jussie Instagram account then delivered a message on her caption. “Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly five times the rate of White Americans. Jussie is innocent.” Jurnee continued saying, “And…you don’t have to believe in his innocence to believe he should be free. #FreeJussie #StopLockingUpOurPeople”
Recently, it was revealed Smollett might not be facing charges for allegedly faking hate mail sent to him. Take a look at Jurnee Smollett’s statement above.
