Update 03/14/2022 2:36pm:
Jussie Smollett was previously sentenced to 150 days in jail for staging a homophobic, race-based attack. Another part of the situation to be addressed in court was the alleged hate mail letter sent to Smollett, which the actor was possibly facing charges for. However, law enforcement sources say Smollett may not face any charges from the feds.
The former ‘Empire’ star claims he received a letter days ahead of the attack, with a warning saying “You will die black f**” on a piece of paper, featuring a drawing of a stick figure in a noose. The sources noted that applying charges to what Smollett already received would be “piling on.” As of now, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois declined to comment. Stay tuned for more updates.

Original 03/10/2022 8:43pm:
Jussie Smollett has been sentenced to 150 days in jail following a highly publicized trial which concluded that the former Empire star staged a homophobic, raced-based attack back in 2019. After the 39-year-old actor completes his jail stint, he will have to serve 30 months of felony probation.
Smollett narrowly avoided being sent to a maximum prison for his crimes thanks to his grandmother and other family members who testified on his behalf as character witnesses. Nevertheless, as a part of his punishment, the actor and singer must also pay the city of Chicago $120,106 in restitution along with a personal fine of $25,000.
After the ruling, an emboldened Smollet took off his face mask and addressed the judge, maintaining his innocence and stating that he did not commit a hoax because he would never intentionally do anything demean the African American and LGBTQ+ community. Then, he stood up and addressed the entire courtroom by deflecting rumors that he was suicidal while making sure that everyone understood that if he were to die at any point during his jail sentence, it would not be because he took his own life.
