Last year, the Supreme Court was asked to review the overturned Bill Cosby conviction. The comedian was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting a Temple University staff member over a decade ago and served almost three years in prison before his case was overturned. Now, a request has reportedly been made to revive the sexual assault case against Cosby, and lawyers for the comedian are preparing to fight the request.

A lawyer for Cosby asked the U.S. Supreme Court to reject the request made by prosecutors to revive the case. Cosby has been free since June 2021 after his conviction was overturned by a Pennsylvania appeals court. In a response filed, Cosby’s lawyer Jennifer Bonjean said, “Notwithstanding the commonwealth’s warning of imminent catastrophic consequences, the Cosby holding will likely be confined to its own ‘rare, if not entirely unique’ set of circumstances, making review by this court particularly unjustified.” It’s been noted the attempt to revive the case is a stretch, as the Supreme Court accepts less than 1% of petitions present to them.
