Nike released an official statement in regard to Sha'Carri Richardson after it was revealed that she tested positive for marijuana, which disqualified her from competing in the 100-meter race at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

NIke responded to the news, stating, "We appreciate Sha’Carri’s honesty and accountability and will continue to support her through this time."

Sha'Carri responded to the news herself in an interview with the TODAY show, where she told Savannah Guthrie that she had an emotional panic after a reporter informed her that her biological mother passed away right before the Olympic Trials. She added, "As much as I’m disappointed, I know that when I step on that track I don’t just represent myself. I represent a community that has shown me great support, great love. I apologize for the fact that I didn’t know how to control my emotions, or deal with my emotions, during that time."
