Previously, it was noted that the fastest woman in the world—Sha’Carri Richardson, tested positive for marijuana and could miss the 100m sprint at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Following the revelation, Richardson tweeted, “I am human.” Now, Sha’Carri has spoken with ‘The Today Show,’ taking responsibility for marijuana.
The Olympic-bound runner said, “I want to take responsibility for my actions, I know what I did. I know what I'm supposed to do, [what] I'm allowed not to do and I still made that decision." From there, Richardson said, “Don't judge me because I am human."
Richardson noted that she turned to marijuana following an interview with a reporter before the trials, where the reporter told her that her biological mother had just passed away before the race. As of now, Richardson has received a one-month suspension, so she will not be running in the Olympic 100m race. However, a decision hasn’t been made yet as to if she’ll be able to join a relay team in the Tokyo Olympics. Stay tuned for more updates.

According to multiple outlets, U.S. sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson reportedly tested positive for marijuana and could miss the 100-meter sprint event at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
CBS Sports pointed out that Richardson's positive test would disqualify her U.S. Olympic Trials performance, and she could be suspended from competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The likely suspension would last 30 days, eliminating her from contention for the coveted gold medal in the 100-meter dash but would end just in time for her to compete in the 4x100-meter relay.
Per CBS Sports: "Jenna Prandini, who finished fourth in the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials, would replace Richardson in the 100 meters if she is disqualified and/or suspended."
While Richardson hasn't spoken directly about the failed drug test, she posted a cryptic tweet on Thursday, which read, "I am human."
