The mother of late rapper Pop Smoke is reportedly considering a meeting with the family of one of her son's murder suspects. Christopher Darden, the attorney for 20-year-old murder suspect Corey Walker, claimed Walker's family requested a meeting with Pop Smoke's mother, Audrey Jackson.
"The Walker family has asked me to contact the victim's family so that they might speak privately," Darden said. "I hope to reach out to the family soon."
When asked about the potential meeting, Jackson -- a New York City teacher -- claimed she was just hearing the news and didn't offer a definitive answer.
"This is new information to me," Jackson responded. "I'll have to learn more. I'm working on a lesson plan right now. That is my focus. I really can't say."
Darden was understanding of Jackson's response and added, "They might need time. I will also understand if [Pop Smoke's mother] is not inclined to have that conversation. Everything we have done and said has been done and said while keeping in mind the great respect we have for the victim and the victim's family."
During last month's preliminary hearing, it was learned that Pop Smoke's alleged gunman was a 15-year-old attempting to rob the rapper's jewelry. Darden argued that his client may have been the driver but never entered the house.
"My client did not kill anyone," the lawyer claimed. "Nor did he conspire to commit murder. Corey was 18. He did not kill the victim. He did not enter the home. The agreement amongst the suspects according to the DA's evidence was that no gun was to be fired. That is in the record."
Walker was expected to be arraigned this week, but the hearing was postponed until July 6.
