Florida’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic along with lockdown measures has been called into question over the last year by many, with critics saying Florida never really had any effective COVID-19 guidelines in place during the last year. Now, news surfaced noting that Governor Ron DeSantis ordered that all COVID-19 restrictions and mandates be lifted by all local governments immediately.

DeSantis spoke on the matter during a press conference in St. Petersburg, Florida, saying, “I think folks that are saying they need to be policing people at this point, if you’re saying that, then you’re really saying you don’t believe in the vaccines.” DeSantis noted the order was to “bridge the gap” until a new law comes into play on July 1 that will allow him the power to overrule cities and counties in Florida.

The governor also noted the new order would prohibit businesses from requiring that people have “vaccination passports” to enter their facilities. DeSantis said, “You have a right to participate in society, go to a restaurant, movie, a ballgame, all these things without having to divulge this type of information.” According to the Sun-Sentinel, Florida recorded a daily positivity rate of 5.87%, which is up over five percent from the day before.
