According to reports, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order that relaxes requirements for restaurant employees returning to work who previously tested positive for COVID-19.

An executive order was previously signed in March 2020, where the state of Florida required two negative tests for a restaurant worker to return to their job after testing positive for coronavirus. However, the new executive order has changed that requirement, saying it is the restaurant’s responsibility to “implement employee screening protocols pursuant to guidance developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

Ron DeSantis said, “The problem with demanding a negative test is these PCR tests will pick up just particles, so it could be dead virus and the CDC has seen people test positive for up to 12 weeks. Obviously, you only carry the live virus for a very short period of time.” News of the change comes after the Florida Health Department reported 7,686 new COVID-19 cases statewide. The revelation of that number means it’s been a week with under 8,000 coronavirus cases reported daily.
