The Houston Rockets revealed that their guard, Sterling Brown, was assaulted at a Miami strip club earlier this week, around the time Sunday turned to Monday. More details have been disclosed days after the alleged assault. Brown reportedly entered the wrong van after leaving the Booby Trap, which led to a bloody beating and left those close to him fearing for his life.
"He had no prior knowledge of or interaction with the assailants," the Rockets announced in a statement. "He suffered facial lacerations but will make a full recovery."
Brown got into a heated exchange with three or more individuals after entering the wrong van. The altercation eventually turned physical after Brown was hit in the head with a bottle, "leaving blood everywhere." Other Rockets players reportedly stepped in to break up the fight.
"If he hadn't been as physically strong and tough, he might not have made it out of the situation [Sunday] night," one source said. "He could have died."
According to reports, Brown and an unnamed man "became belligerent and refused to cooperate" once police arrived. The Rockets guard required multiple stitching jobs for his facial injuries and underwent a number of tests before he was discharged from the hospital.
In addition to his health, Brown could face disciplinary action from the NBA as league policy prohibits players from going to bars, lounges, and clubs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rockets have stated that they will cooperate with a league investigation.
While on the Milwaukee Bucks in 2018, Sterling Brown was tased by police and charged with resisting arrest over a verbal confrontation regarding a parking ticket. He ended up receiving a $750,000 settlement over the incident.
No arrests have been made since the alleged assault occurred at the Miami strip club.
