Doja Cat survived nearly being canceled last year after her past participation in alt-right group chats was exposed, resulting in public backlash including a slight diss from Nas. However, a man who defended her during the controversial moment has come out to praise her rapping abilities.
Hot 97's Ebro announced on Twitter, "Doja Cat raps really well. That's the tweet," which led to a multitude of responses. After receiving responses from his followers, Ebro added more context to his opinion by praising the music artist for her versatility.
"You can argue that you don't like what Doja Cat has to say when rapping... But her rapping abilities are top notch, stylistically speaking she can do almost any style."
Ebro previously defended Doja Cat when she was battling racism allegations and called on people to uplift her instead of canceling her.
"Instead of canceling Doja Cat for having some weird fetish and identity issues. [Is it] possible to uplift her and show her that being Black is beautiful?" Ebro wrote at the time. "I'm assuming she had no Black culture in her suburban wasteland and her white Mom couldn't help her. And chat rooms."
Since the controversial moment, Doja Cat has received three Grammy nominations and two American Music Awards. Her recently released single, "Kiss Me More," featuring SZA, debuted at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.
