Update 10/17/2019 4:52pm:

Jamel "Mel Murda" Jones was sentenced to 135 months (or 11.25 years) in federal prison on Thursday (October 17) in the 6ix9ine/Nine Trey racketeering case. In addition, Jones will have five years of probation after his release and he will have to pay $10,000 in forfeiture.

Jones pleaded guilty in April to racketeering and narcotics offenses for being part of the Nine Trey Gangster Bloods and transporting heroin and fentanyl in two incidents. Jones sold drugs to an undercover NYPD officer on Nov. 15, 2018, which was videotaped by former Nine Trey member-turned-informant Kristian Cruz. Mel was arrested four days after the deal.

Before his sentencing, Jones wrote a letter to the judge, asking to be given a second chance. He stated in the letter, "Please allow me to return to [my family] as soon as possible. I don't need a whole lot of time to fix myself. I need counseling and for you to believe in me, and see that I'm not the monster they paint me to be."

Tekashi will be sentenced on Dec. 18.

Jamel "Mel Murda" Jones, who prosecutors painted as the "godfather" of the Nine Trey Gangster Bloods, is facing 14 years in prison following Tekashi 6ix9ine's testimony in court. According to documents obtained by The Blast, prosecutors sent a letter to the judge asking that Jones be sentenced to a minimum of 135 months and a maximum of 168 months.

Prosecutors also pointed to Tekashi's testimony, stating, "Daniel Hernandez testified about the aftermath of Hernandez’s kidnapping. Specifically, Hernandez testified that after Hernandez was kidnapped, the defendant and others, including Kifano Jordan, a/k/a 'Shotti,' came to Hernandez’s house and that Jordan brought an assault rifle to the house in order to retaliate against Ellison."

Prosecutors are pushing a harsh sentence for Jones to use him as an example of why people shouldn't join gangs. They stated, "A significant term of incarceration is needed to deter the defendant from continuing with his affiliation with Nine Trey and to deter others from embracing the violent and destructive nature of gang life."
