Back in 1994 during the golden age of hip-hop, the legendary Notorious B.I.G. released his debut studio album Ready to Die that featured the iconic "Juicy" as the first single, of which over Trackmasters production BIG laced three of the most memorable verses in the genre's history.

"Thinkin' back on my one-room shack/Now my mom pimps an Ac' with minks on her back/and she loves to show me off of course, smiles every time my face is up in The Source," Biggie rhymed over the instrumental, referencing the apartment he grew up in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn.

While at the time of the recording the neighborhood was known to be plagued by drugs and crime, over the years the property value has increased due to the well-publicized effects of gentrification, as now the same exact apartment is being rented for a reported $4K a month.

Although the residence has been renovated over the years and is now listed as a gentrified three-bedroom home, it's kept some of its intricate details from when Biggie lived there with his family, all of which was originally purchased for $825K back in 2013 to the individual who's now renting it out.

“The neighborhood is all hipsters and millennials,” said Kathleen Perkins, a Douglas Elliman broker. “People in finance and tech people.” Furthermore, another broker described the neighborhood as "calm and residential now... it’s hard to imagine it’s the same street that he sang about with all the drugs and gunfire. It couldn’t be more different.”

All the same, earlier this month local officials chose to rename the corner of St. James Place and Fulton Street to “Christopher Wallace Way,” to honor the legendary emcee and ensure that his memory will never be forgotten or replaced.
