Super Bowl Sunday is usually an entertaining day on social media, and sure enough, despite an uneventful game the Internet provided some comic relief. Upon hearing the news that 21 Savage had reportedly been arrested by ICE for overstaying his VISA, there were a variety of memes that circulated the net that captured the uniqueness of the circumstances, yet one celebrity apparently took her enthusiasm for the moment too far.

Demi Lovato had been retweeting the memes that depicted 21 Savage in all varieties of British culture, at one point writing on Twitter: "So far the 21 Savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl."

As a result, numerous celebrities shared their criticism of Lovato for laughing about a serious situation, with the likes of Offset, Sid the Kid, and Wale voicing their disapproval over a joke that clearly backfired. At one point, Lil Yachty wrote "Fuck Demi Lovato n**** #21," while other celebrities were quick to point out how Lovato had been the recipient of overwhelming support when she overdosed on drugs within the last year.

Sure enough, the criticism was too much for Lovato to handle, leading the pop sensation to deactivate her Twitter after writing: "F*** Twitter, this is why I don't tweet anymore." She then followed that up with another statement on Instagram, clarifying that she wasn't laughing at the thought of 21 Savage actually having to leave the country.

"Wasn't laughing at anyone getting deported," Lovato wrote in her IG Story, "I know that's not a joke...not have I EVER laughed at that, the meme I posted/was talking about was of him being writing with a feather pen. Sorry if I offended anyone. But it's no excuse to laugh at someone's addiction, let alone their OD."

She then concluded her thoughts by saying: "Lastly, I wasn't making fun on anything having to do with deportations or even anything against him, I was laughing at who the f*** knew 21 Savage was British? ... I'm sorry if I upset people truly." She then ended her explanation by asking Wale if he wanted to discuss the matter in her DM's.
