Actor Geoffrey Owens made headlines recently after a picture circulated of him working at a Trader Joe's grocery store. Owens' story became a hot-button topic and eventually led to him landing a recurring role on a new Tyler Perry directed/produced drama series on OWN, “The Haves and the Have Nots." But what actually went wrong for Owens to have to work at a grocery store anyway?

According to Owens himself, it was the Bill Cosby scandal. Owens noted that the controversy surrounding Cosby led to the legendary sitcom to be pulled which effectively dried up Owens royalty checks. Owens told People, “That was one of the elements that led to my getting to the place where I said to myself, ‘I have to do something’ and I was thinking, ‘What can I do?’ and the answer ended up being Trader Joe’s, which is actually a wonderful situation for me in many ways," adding, "I just had to do something to support myself and my family.”

Owens explained that acting is his passion, stating, “I’m going to persevere. And even if that means, that eventually when all this hoopla dies down, I might need to take another job outside of the business. I’m still willing to do that.”
