Kim Kardashian has received a ton of heat for going to meet Donald Trump on behalf of Alice Marie Johnson last week. Since then, the reality star has drawn criticism after the president granted clemency to the 63-year-old first-time nonviolent drug offender who was serving a life sentence without parole.

While many have questioned whether Kardashian used her popularity to help gain the freedom of Johnson, there are those who believe she will be used as a political instrument to gain new support for the president.

During an interview with CNN’s Van Jones, Kardashian explained that she doesn’t believe she was used by the president for ulterior motives.

I think Kanye’s already given him legitimacy in that way,’ she said. “I was working on this before. I don’t think I would be used. At the end of the day, he heard me out. We got the job done. What could he really use me for?”

Kardashian also recalled the phone call she had with Trump prior to the announcement of Johnson’s pardon, explaining that the White House examined Johnson's case thoroughly.

"They spoke to [Johnson’s] warden and just spoke to everyone. Everyone had a unanimous feeling of Alice that she will live a great life and that she has done her time, has been a model person in prison,” she said. “When he said he has the papers in front of him and he's signing it ... my heart was so full.
