The Tonight Show is known to have had guest hosts on occasion over the years, but never in its 64-year history had the production been delivered with a co-host on the set until Cardi B was invited to share facilitating duties with Jimmy Fallon on Monday night, April 9.

Mixing in special hosts was once a time-honored tradition for The Tonight Show, with several temporary fill-ins such as Joan Rivers, David Brenner, and Richard Belzer getting their starts in relief of the legendary Johnny Carson and using that experience to spin off into their own late-night projects. In fact, Carson's successor, Jay Leno, got his start by taking over every once in awhile at the tail end of the late host's career. But up until Fallon's latest episode, not once did the host ever share the stage.

From the outset it was apparent that the duo just didn't click with the same chemistry they appeared to have when Fallon had Cardi on to interview her last year. But the odd pair nevertheless made for some decent material.

With a multi-talented and comfortable star like Cardi, Fallon was able to mix it up by including her in interviewing duties with guest John Mulaney, having her record a lucky fan's voicemail, delving into a racy game of Box of Lies, and even featuring a performance from hip hop's hottest star.
