As the Celtics were gearing up to honor former starting point guard, now a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Isaiah Thomas on the same night as Paul Pierce's jersey retirement ceremony, Thomas asked the Celts to back off his video tribute. The tension was mounting as Paul Pierce continued to question why Thomas was being honored on the same night as his jersey retirement and it seems that the former Washington Husky is deferring to the Boston great. Thomas tweeted on Tuesday night,

"I'd like to thank the Celtics for their gracious offer to play a video tribute on Feb 11th celebrating my 3yrs in Boston. But since it appears this has caused some controversy w/ Paul Pierce's night I'd ask the Celtics instead to focus all of their attention on #34's career."

Thomas initially requested that his tribute be moved to February 11 instead of the January 3 matchup where IT was inactive and his family was out of town. Pierce, who's jersey retirement ceremony was scheduled for the same night wasn't feeling the idea of sharing his night. Although IT felt his video tribute wouldn't take away from Pierce's night he's obviously had a change of heart since then.
