A medical examiner has confirmed the cause of death of emo rapper Lil Peep (real name Gustav Åhr) as Fentanyl and Xanax overdose. The medical examiner’s office told Pitchfork that the “manner of death” was “accidental”.

Peep passed away last month, November 15th, from what was suspected, at the time, to be a drug overdose. However, it was said that a definitive cause of death could not be determined until full toxicology results were published. He was 21.

Along with the Fentanyl and Xanax, Peep also had marijuana, cocaine and the painkiller Tramadol in his blood. The rapper’s urine also tested positive for opiates such as Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), Oxycodone and Oxymorphone.

The rapper was found unresponsive on his tour bus in Tucson, Arizona. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead on the scene, the Tucson Police Dept. confirmed last month.

Following his death, Peep’s brother (Karl Åher) claimed his death was an accident. “We [the family] have heard there was some sort of substance he did not expect to be involved in the substance he was taking,” he said. “He thought he could take what he did, but he had been given something and he didn’t realize what it was.”

Many friends, family and even other artists have paid their respects and shown their support for the late rapper.
