Trump tweeted about the NYC terror suspect late Wednesday, claiming that he should receive the death penalty for his crime. "NYC terrorist was happy as he asked to hang ISIS flag in his hospital room. He killed 8 people, badly injured 12. SHOULD GET DEATH PENALTY! tweeted" the president. His tweet is largely in response to reports that surfaced about the suspect, Sayfullo Saipov, telling authorities that he "felt good" about what he had done and even requesting the Islamic State flag be displayed in his hospital room.

Trump tweeted earlier that he'd be terminating the visa program that allowed the suspect to remain the country and that he would ramp up the vetting efforts of immigrants. Trump tweeted, "The United States will be immediately implementing much tougher Extreme Vetting Procedures. The safety of our citizens comes first!"

Former President Barack Obama took to social media to relay a message to the people of New York City immediately following the horrific attack stating: "Michelle and I are thinking of the victims of today's attack in NYC and everyone who keeps us safe. New Yorkers are as tough as they come."
