Update: 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov of Tampa, Florida has been named as the suspect behind the terror attack in New York City on Tuesday (October 31) afternoon. According to NBC News, Saipov is an Uzbek national who came to the U.S. in 2010.

After it was announced that the death toll had risen from 7 to 8 people, Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke out about the "very painful day in our city." He added, "This was an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians."

At least seven people have died after a truck ran down pedestrians and bicyclists in lower Manhattan in NYC on Tuesday (October 31). Police are investigating the incident as a possible terror attack.

Police officials told CNN that a driver of a Home Depot rental truck drove the wrong way down a busy bicycle path near the World Trade Center. The officials added that four witnesses heard the driver screaming "Allahu Akbar" as he ran over the victims.

The suspect drove several blocks before hitting a school bus, leaving four people with minor injuries. The suspect, who was carrying a Florida ID, was apprehended by NYPD and is now in custody.
