Not only is Nas a shrewd lyricist, the Queens MC is also trying his hand at a few business endeavors. Last night (June 16), while in NYC he made sure to stop by the Lower East Side restaurant, 'Sweet Chick,' to help celebrate its one-year anniversary, reports HipHopWired.
John Seymour, which owns both Big Apple locations (which are in Manhattan and Brooklyn) tapped Nas in the hopes that the "N.Y. State of Mind" wordsmith could help bolster its brand recognition. Sweet Chick is billed as serving "American cuisine with a Southern accent." Currently a third NYC spot is undergoing construction and there are tentative plans to expand westward to California.
In a released statement Seymore shared, "As we continue to grow and develop the Sweet Chick brand, we want to align with partners and artists that understand what we represent. When conceptualizing Sweet Chick, we understood the history of chicken & waffles and wanted to have an amazing product while paying homage to its roots within the music community of NYC."
Acclaimed as an astute Hip-Hop artist, Nas' lyricism was recently added to limited-edition cans of Sprite, and Seymor also shows respect to Nas' innate creativity. Seymor's announcement ended with, "Music has played a huge part in defining who we are and with Nas (my favorite rapper) on board, it's a dream come true and we can truly move forward with a 'NY state of Mind' and introduce SWEET CHICK to a bigger audience."
Would ever you patronize a Sweet Chick restaurant?
