West Coast rapper/actor and former N.W.A. member Ice Cube recently provided an update on the inner workings of the highly anticipated N.W.A. film.

It seems things are going in the right direction, but a director is still needed for progress to really pick up. It was said that Boyz N The Hood director John Singleton is in talks with Ice Cube to possibly head up the directing but nothing has been confirmed.

"We're interviewing a lot of directors. I don't want to say 'ye' or 'nay,' but we're interviewing directors. So, the movie's in progress in this high speed, and it's coming along. Hopefully, we get it done," Ice Cube says.

"I'm happy with the script. The script is about 75 percent there. We're waiting to hire a director and then bring it all home. It's always stumbling blocks in Hollywood. There are always ways that the movie can not get made. Until they green-light the picture, start cutting checks, it's still just a dream." - MTV

John Singleton also had some things to say in regards to his upcoming endeavors and the N.W.A. film.

"I can't talk too prematurely about the stuff I'm doing because nothing's come to fruition yet, but Cube and I are talking about doing the N.W.A. story... The script is really, really good, and so we're just figuring it out. New Line really wants to make it." - Prefix Mag

It still remains unclear who actually wrote the script, but various writers such as Andrea Berloff, S. Leigh Savidge, Alan Wenkus, and Matt Alvarez have had their names attached to the film.

"Who that script is written by, at least in terms of the latest draft, is unclear. Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center, the upcoming Fugees biopic), S. Leigh Savidge (The Legend of Dolemite, director of Welcome to Death Row a doc about Death Row Records), radio veteran Alan Wenkus and Matt Alvarez (a producer on most of Ice Cube's films) have all had their names attached to the project so it very well could contain elements from all four writers. If so, it seems like a good team whose past and future credits qualify them to tell the story of one of rap's greatest and most notorious ensembles hailed by Rolling Stone as 1 of "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" list (despite only having two albums). Not to mention that Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Woods-Wright, and Dr. Dre will also serve as producers on the film." - First Showing
