The NFL can be a cold business. The night before Super Bowl XLVI, the Patriots released receiver Tiquan Underwood and promoted defensive end Alex Silvestro from the practice squad. The team like plans to use the undrafted rookie Silvestro as part of a defensive line rotation.

In addition, this makes it very likely that receiver Chad Ochocinco will be active for tonight's game.

A source says the cut wasn't due to a disciplinary action, and the team still wants Underwood back next season, which makes the move even more harsh. He went through all the preparation for the Big Game, was in the team picture, and described it as a "dream".

Despite the cut, Underwood kept his head held high and didn't express any bitterness towards the decision. He wished his team luck via Twitter, and said the move only motivated him to work harder.
