Lottery winners in Illinois are fuming after they won considerable amounts of cash through scratch-off cards, only for the checks to bounce a few weeks later.

One woman, Maureen Furio of Lake Zurich, Ill., says she won $1,000 on a scratch off, which she used on paying off holiday bills. However, she said that nearly a week later the check bounced.

Lottery spokesman Mike Lang revealed that the Lottery's bank failed to authorize about 85 payments of the 311 checks written out on Dec. 28, due to a security authorization that wasn't sent to the bank on time. He added that the snafu was also caused by the fact they were extemely short staffed for the holidays.

Nearly $159,000 in checks were returned, which the Lottery says they were taking care of, along with any bank fees associated.
